Kathie & Matt | 10.1.2011

It’s not every day you get to photograph a lifelong friend’s wedding, especially one as small and intimate as Kathie and Matt’s. I don’t remember when, exactly, I first met Matt, but I’m pretty sure Kriss Kross and parachute pants were all the rage. Needless to say, I have many totally inappropriate stories about shenanigans with Matt, some of which fall precariously close to the borders of legality… Like the time I was 14 and Matt talked me into “borrowing” my brother’s girlfriend’s car and driving over to his house to play hooky on National Video Game Day (an actual holiday). We even spent four years at the same college, studying different aspects of photography. I liked to take bad pictures of otherwise pretty things, and Matt liked to photograph bullets going through eggs and tomatoes. You know, for science. Though what I remember most was his discovery of an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice synthesizer our freshman year that led me and my roommate to unhook our answering machine… But I digress.

Planning a Vermont wedding in October is a lot like shooting a game of craps, with the payout being a beautiful fall day with foliage and cider donuts. October 1 was not such a day, but that’s when I got to learn a lot about Kathie, and see just how perfect the two of them are for each other. Instead of wearing the “perfect” heels that matched her dress, Kathie donned an awesome pair of blue Hunter rain boots, and we went out on an adventure. We braved wind, rain, and heavy traffic to get the pictures we had meticulously planned. All the while Kathie’s positive and energetic nature displaced the cold and wet weather around us with a warm glow, and encouraged Matt’s ever-playful and light hearted nature. Instead of fighting the weather, they made it their own, and we just had fun, but that’s evident enough in the photographs, where their love speaks volumes and transforms an otherwise gloomy fall day into something brilliant.

Brooke & Phil | 10.1.2011

Brooke and Phil were wed on a drizzly October day at the Green Mountain Inn in the heart of Stowe village. Everyone was a wonderful sport despite the weather and we think the photos came out beautifully. Brooke and Phil both have great style and it showed through in the little details – we loved her shoes and fur shawl, and we also think that Nicole from The Painted Tulip did a great job on the flowers. Many thanks to Seth Butler for second shooting. Congratulations Brooke and Phil!!

Karen & Joe | Engagement

We photographed Karen and Joe’s engagement session during the liveliest point of the foliage season this month. The two are getting hitched at Joe’s family home in Newbury next year, and wanted their engagement session to reflect the small-town, rustic atmosphere of their wedding. The lighting that day was really beautiful and the two of them warmed up to the camera nicely after a while. We think their photos came out beautifully and are in love with the property where they’re getting married – we can’t wait to photograph their wedding!

Rachel & Eric | Engagement

Rachel and Eric are getting married next August at the ECHO Center right here in Burlington. For their engagement session they had a unique idea we’ve never tried before: cooking dinner together at home. The two of them share a large, beautiful house in Rutland, which was a great backdrop for the shoot. After a quick stop at the nearby covered bridge with their dog, we photographed them making and grilling pizza together, hanging out on their couch, and then shared a meal with them. What a lovely idea! And we think it turned out quite well. Can’t wait to work with you guys more!

Darcie & Kyle | 9.17.2011

Darcie and Kyle were wed at the Basin Harbor Club in Vergennes last month. For those of you that aren’t familiar with it, it’s a lovely little resort tucked into Basin Harbor on Lake Champlain. It’s small enough to walk to your various destinations but someone can usually take you for a spin in a golf cart. They have gorgeous flower gardens, several small cottages for guests and a beautiful ceremony spot overlooking the lake. Darcie and Kyle had their adorable infant son Logan with them as well as their chocolate lab Diesel, who ran amuck during the ceremony – but no one really seemed to mind. Overall a beautiful celebration with friends and family. Congratulations Darcie and Kyle!
